Mrs Inzaghi’s eldest
By: Penny | May 24th, 2008So, I suggested to Offside, how about an Pippo Inzaghi blog? If you must, they replied, with all the enthusiasm of an alpha mummy whose toddler has its arms around the runt of the litter, but you’ll have to take care of it yourself. I said I would, so here we are.
It’s not that easy to do the breathless fan thing writing about Inzaghi, he’s a bit too much of a complex player for all that. Man, he can infuriate some people simply by being on the pitch, including, unfortunately, his teammates, and the glory of his game is completely lost on British commentators.
He’s an interesting man at an interesting point in his career. As he plays for AC Milan he could probably carry on for a good few years yet, although you have to wonder about the effect on other players of having a forward who hits middle age in August. Playing with Inzaghi doesn’t seem to have done Gilardino much good, but that might be not so much about carrying a less agile player and more about Gilardino going to Milan under the misapprehension that he had a bye into the team.
It’s safe to say that Inzaghi is not at a high point in his career at the moment, despite having just reached 100 goals for Milan. He’s just been left out of the Italy squad for the Euros, and Milan singularly failed to reach the Champions League, but he’s come back from worse than that in his time, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I like Inzaghi. I shouldn’t probably I suppose as he’s the sort of player I don’t usually find interesting, but I do really admire him, he is fantastic as a pure striker.
Plus he’s bailed me out on Football Manager a few times over the years bless him.

He has to use his mind to overcome his obvious shortcomings, physically and technically, I find that more interesting to watch than a player such as Drogba or Henry who are clearly athletes.
That’s got to endear him to you.

Inzaghi rules. Sure, he’s waifish, dives and is constantly offsides. But time and time again, he scores massive goal after massive goal, appearing from nowhere, like a little foul-mouthed assassin, to kill the hopes of his enemies.

screw the haters. i think Capello would give his eye teeth to have someone like Pippo in the England squad. leave the commentators to their Rooneys…

there is absolutely no one like super pippo – 3 cheers to you, penny for putting up a blog for one of the most underrated strikers of this generation….anyone who has seen pippo come of the bench and score in the final moments of a game to take his team to victory can easily forgive him for his many misses and his more than many dives! he has his own style of playing (at the shoulder of the last defender) and any idiot (read english commentators) who cant see what he has achieved in his career should just stick to talking about the epl and how good the english are while they know in their hearts, that if they had had a pippo in their sides, they would not now be forced to looking at the euros on their tv sets!

he may not score the most technically adept goals in the world, but they all look beautiful to me, especially the ones in the last moments of Champions League quarter finals.
He doesn’t have a bad record against British clubs in Europe, so I’d like to think he might have done all right in the EPL

I think he would have been fine in the EPL actually, he’s the sort of striker that would work if a side is built around him

Welcome to the Offside Penny.
I have fond memories of Inzagol’s deadly partnership with ADP in the 1997-98 Juventus season. SuperPippo’s certainly a controversial player, but one with innate goalscoring abilities, without a doubt.Good luck with the blog!

He always needs to be supplied with the ball, but that’s true of a lot of forwards, if he had a team that suited him, he would have flourished here.
Thank you very much, Marco. Inzaghi and ADP were a great team. He is controversial, but that’s what makes him so interesting, he shouldn’t work but he undoubtedly does.

I believe Inzaghi is one of the greatest pure striker ever in top of his form. His got his top form in Juventus but right now I still can see Inzaghi never lose his instict and willing to create gol. He’s not as fast as he used to be, but he do not need that as long as he got his instict to make a score.
