Pawing the ground

By: Penny | July 3rd, 2008

He may be on holiday still, but Inzaghi has turned his mind to the fact that the new season starts for Milan in about a fortnight. He is apparently blissfully unaware of Jose Mourinho and his bizarre supermarket based sound bites, lucky man, but he thinks that the derby will be interesting, and that it would be wonderfully symetrical if Milan won the scudetto.

Of course Milan’s excursions into Europe will be based around the UEFA Cup this year, but Inzaghi doesn’t seem to be too disappointed about that, probably because goals in the UEFA Cup will count towards his European total. Inzaghi is still several goals behind Gerd Muller’s absolute total as some of those were scored in the Fairs Cup, which is not recognised by UEFA. Hopefully, he can score a few this season so even Sky Sports commentators will accept that he holds the record. It’s one of the few trophies Inzaghi hasn’t won, and how good would it be to see Maldini play his last game in a European final?

I hope he keeps hold of that title, it’s taken thirty years for someone to beat Muller’s record.

as Champions magazine once said, he is the old dog for the long road, put him on and he’ll do everything humanly possible to score.
