Perhaps the money helps

By: Penny | September 7th, 2008

Lazio haven’t been able to force their unwanted players, including Simone Inzaghi, into asking for transfers before the end of the window, so it appears that they have told them that they will be training with the first team from now on.

It’s difficult to imagine a more miserable situation for both parties, Lazio still paying players that it has no use for, and the players knowing that they are wasting their time, and that it is getting less and less likely that they will be able to find anyone to take them.

I don’t really know what Lazio hoped to achieve in its treatment of these players, by making them outcasts they’ve generated a large amount of negative publicity and effectively prevented any serious bids for most of them. Football is a very cruel game, it moves on quickly to the next success, and in the end it leaves every player, however good, in its wake. There is still time for Simone Inzaghi to stage a comeback, either at Lazio or somewhere else, whether he wouldn’t be better off calling it a day I don’t know, it must be hard to leave it all behind.
